Replacement window options and door styles
The GOLDGCP windows and doors showroom shows the products vetted pros install. Window options include double-hung, casement, picture and impact windows in vinyl, fiberglass, wood and aluminum frames, with dual-pane, triple-pane and Low-E glass. Entry door styles come in fiberglass, wood and steel, alongside French, sliding patio and multi-slide doors. Window replacement usually costs $450 to $1,500 per window installed.
Which replacement window style should I choose?
Double-hung windows have two sashes that slide and tilt in for cleaning, and they are among the least expensive styles. Casement windows crank outward and seal tightly, so they insulate well but cost a little more. Picture windows don't open and give the widest view. Bay and bow windows cost several times as much.
Which entry door material fits my home?
Steel doors are secure, durable and affordable, but can rust if scratched. Fiberglass insulates well, resists dents and can look like wood. Solid wood has a classic look but needs refinishing and can swell in moisture. A steel entry door replacement recouped 216% of its cost in the 2025 Cost vs. Value report.
What do U-factor and SHGC mean on a window?
Both are National Fenestration Rating Council ratings. U-factor measures how well a window keeps heat in, and lower is better in cold climates. Solar heat gain coefficient, or SHGC, measures how much of the sun's heat passes through, and lower is better in hot climates. ENERGY STAR sets recommended values by climate zone.
